Will India Bring Home an Oscar in 2026? Here’s the Full Truth!
The 98th Academy Awards are finally here, but many Indian film fans are wondering if they’ll see any local titles on the big stage tonight. While there was a lot of buzz surrounding Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, the film unfortunately missed out on a final nomination. It had a strong start, making it to the prestigious shortlist of 15 films for Best International Feature Film, but it didn’t quite make it into the final five. Other popular movies like Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 and Tanvi The Great were also eligible for consideration earlier in the season but did not secure nominations.
Even though there isn’t a direct Indian film in the main categories, there is still an Indian connection to watch for! Filmmaker Geeta Gandbhir has earned two massive nods: her film The Perfect Neighbor is nominated for Best Documentary Feature, and The Devil is Busy is up for Best Documentary Short Film. Plus, Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra will be representing India on stage as one of the official presenters. You can catch the ceremony streaming live in India on March 16th starting at 4:30 AM to see if our talent takes home a win!
