Can the New Kerala Cabinet Script History? V.D. Satheesan and Team Take the Ultimate Oath!
A major political shift has officially begun in Kerala as V.D. Satheesan took the oath of office as the new Chief Minister at Thiruvananthapuram’s Central Stadium. This grand ceremony marks the grand return of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to power after a long ten-year wait, following their massive victory in the state assembly elections. The event was packed with high-profile energy, drawing in top national Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alongside several Chief Ministers from other states to celebrate the new beginning.
In a remarkable move that hasn’t happened in nearly sixty years, the entire 21-member cabinet took their oaths together on the very same day. To keep the peace within the alliance and balance party dynamics, Satheesan has handed over the powerful Home and Vigilance ministries to his senior rival, Ramesh Chennithala, while choosing to manage the state’s challenging Finance portfolio himself. This fresh administration boasts a unique mix of experience and fresh faces, including five ministers from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and representation for women and Dalit communities, signaling a strong focus on inclusive governance.
