While promoting his new movie Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, Ayushmann blew everyone away with a gorgeous live performance of his track “Dil Waale Chor (Reprise).” However, the performance felt deeply surreal for the actor, who took to Instagram right after to reveal that this was the exact same reality show stage that brutally rejected him during the second round of auditions back in 2006. He reminisced about his grueling Chandigarh-to-Mumbai struggle, sharing a mind-blowing piece of trivia that he and current judge Neha Kakkar were actually rejected on the very same day and even cried together on the train ride home with fifty other contestants.
The emotional episode quickly turned into a beautiful celebration of talent and humility. Aside from looking back at his own journey from a rejected contestant to a major box-office draw, Ayushmann shared a deeply personal connection with the legendary guest of honor, Helen. He poured his heart out to the iconic dancer, thanking her for single-handedly giving cabaret performances the ultimate respect and status of pure art in Indian cinema. In a sweet, conversational moment, Ayushmann even revealed that his mother is originally from Burma, and that growing up, her absolute biggest brag in life was that the legendary Helen was from Burma too. The film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, which also stars Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, is currently playing successfully in cinemas worldwide.
