Beef Fest or Political Stunt? Why the IUML is Blasting Students Over This Movie Protest.
A major political row has broken out in Kerala over the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2. To protest a scene in the trailer where a character is forced to eat beef, the Left-wing student group SFI held “beef festivals” across the state. However, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has slammed the move, calling it a “cheap political gimmick.” They argue that linking beef to any specific religion is misleading and only creates unnecessary tension between communities.
While the IUML agree that the movie should be boycotted for spreading misinformation, they believe the SFI’s “provocative” protest might hurt the religious sentiments of their Hindu neighbors. As the movie’s February 27 release approaches, the focus has shifted from the film itself to a debate on how to protest respectfully. Ultimately, there is hope that by choosing “constructive resistance” over loud stunts, the people of Kerala can protect their tradition of living together in peace.
