Can Vijay Break the DMK’s Stronghold in North Chennai?
The race for Tamil Nadu is heating up, and Thalapathy Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is officially taking the fight to North Chennai. This area has been a solid fortress for the DMK for over 50 years, but Vijay is looking to change that. He’s specifically eyeing spots like RK Nagar and Perambur—places that have struggled with poverty and neglect—promising to turn them into “modern hubs” like Singapore. It’s a bold move that shows he isn’t looking for a “safe” seat; he wants to prove he can win where it’s toughest.
At the same time, TVK’s General Secretary, Aadhav Arjuna, is making it clear that they are staying independent. Despite rumors of high-stakes offers—including a rotational Chief Minister post and up to 90 assembly seats—Arjuna says Vijay has rejected them all. They are choosing to contest all 234 seats alone because they refuse to “succumb to Delhi” or compromise their ideology. For Vijay and his team, this isn’t about making deals behind closed doors; it’s about winning the direct trust of the people and offering a completely fresh start for the state.
