Ilayaraja Loses Big in Court
Lately, the legendary composer Ilayaraja has been getting a lot of heat for asking producers to pay him every time they use his old songs. Many fans and filmmakers feel that a star of his level shouldn’t be chasing money for classics that actually help the new generation discover his genius. However, the Delhi High Court just gave him a major reality check. After the music label Saregama took him to court, the judge ruled that Ilayaraja doesn’t actually own the rights to the music from 134 of his films. Because the movie producers signed those rights over to Saregama years ago, the label is the one officially in charge. This is a massive shock for the music icon, especially since he has been putting those same songs on apps like Spotify and Amazon Music. The court basically told him to stop, making it clear that the legal rights belong to the music label, not the composer. For someone who has been a king in the industry for decades, this is a tough lesson to learn. It’s a clear sign that he needs to stop giving producers a hard time and accept that, legally, these songs aren’t his to sell anymore. Hopefully, this settles the drama so everyone can go back to just enjoying his incredible music.
