Legal Drama Ends? Jana Nayagan Makers Withdraw High Court Petition

- Producers Withdraw Court Case in Jana Nayagan Censor Row
Initially, the producers had filed a writ petition when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) referred Jana Nayagan to a revising committee instead of granting the certificate they were seeking. This legal route began in early January after the board delayed final clearance, leading the team to knock on the High Court’s doors.
The makers of the much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, have decided to withdraw their legal petition from the Madras High Court that challenged the film’s certification process. The decision marks a new turn in the long and complicated dispute over the film’s censor approval.

On Tuesday, the production house — KVN Productions LLP — submitted a letter to the court registry saying it no longer wants to continue with the legal battle. Instead, the makers have opted to pursue certification through the CBFC’s revising committee, which is the next official step in the board’s internal review process. The matter was listed before Justice P.T. Asha on February 10 specifically for the withdrawal request.
This move comes after several shifts in the legal proceedings. Earlier, a single judge had directed the CBFC to issue a certification, but that order was set aside by a division bench of the High Court. An appeal to the Supreme Court of India also did not lead to a resolution, bringing the focus back to the High Court.

With the court case now withdrawn, Jana Nayagan will remain with the CBFC’s revising committee, which will review the film again and decide on the appropriate certificate — whether U, U/A, or A. This step could finally move the film closer to release, though no exact certification or release date has been announced yet
The delay has been a long and winding process, but this latest development suggests that the producers are choosing to resolve the issue through the board’s established procedures instead of continuing the legal fight. Fans around the country are now watching closely for the revising committee’s decisions and updates on when the film might finally hit theatres
