UAE Reportedly Deporting Thousands of Pakistani Workers Amid Rising Diplomatic Tensions
Fresh reports have sparked concern after claims emerged that the United Arab Emirates has deported thousands of Pakistani workers amid growing diplomatic and financial tensions between the two nations.
According to reports attributed to The New York Times, more than 5,000 Pakistani families were allegedly deported from the UAE in recent weeks. The report further claimed that many among them belonged to the Shia community, though there has been no official confirmation from UAE authorities regarding the figures or the reasons behind the deportations.
The developments reportedly come at a time when relations between Pakistan and the UAE have become strained over Islamabad’s attempts to mediate between Iran and the United States, along with mounting pressure surrounding the repayment of billions of dollars in financial assistance extended by the UAE.
Reports also suggest that the UAE recently demanded quicker repayment of a multi-billion-dollar loan given to Pakistan, increasing concerns about Pakistan’s already fragile economic condition and foreign exchange reserves.
